Hermione Granger meets Mickey Mouse.
Hi! I’m so glad you’re here.
I’m Brandi. Aspiring to be one-of-one, working my tail off to see it happen.
After years in the corporate marketing field and the birth of my son, I realized life was just too short to perfect my ability to send an email asking people to fill out their timesheets. (For the record, I still do this, but it it is not what fuels me, if you feel me?)
My brain has always consisted of stories (and queso and Halloween costumes and Tim Curry’s monologue from the movie Clue, and dogs doing that cute thing where they fall asleep with their legs sticking up in the air).
I know my friends’ coffee orders. I bring expertly curated playlists for road trips. Dinner for two? I’ll get your Diet Coke and queso ordered before you even sit down. Drawer full of niche and personalized birthday cards? Got ‘em, stamped, ready and waiting.
What I’m trying to say is I care a lot about the weird details. I sweat the small stuff (in a good way). I do it all with a healthy balance of optimism and grit. Nothing is too serious. And by all means, look on the bright side.
This is what I bring to my work as a writer, an artist, a witch-in-waiting - a lack of seriousness, a hunger for magic, a whisper of the imagination’s deepest darkest wishes.
I mean, I survived high school in the early aughts. We deserve this!
You can catch me somewhere in Texas, probably wishing for rain, definitely with a salsa stain on my t-shirt.
Work
Do I have an agent? No!
Did I let that stop me from self-publishing my first children’s picture book? No! Much like the sneakers my mom painted red when I was 6 so that I could have my very own ruby slippers (see adorable photo above), I’m not deterred easily. If magic is out there, I’m going to find it or make it myself.
I am seeking representation as a picture book author and will bust my chops to get it. In the meantime, the heart wants what the heart wants, so I’m going to keep putting out work that I feel the world needs to see.
My first book, A Very Spooky Summer was published in October 2024. My 3 year old son and his wild imagination were the inspiration. (If you’re into potentially crying, here is a video of me reading it to him for the first time. Sorry not sorry.)
A Very Spooky Summer
Wyatt's not a summer kind of kid. Hot? Bright? No thanks.
But he's got a birthday smack dab in the middle of summer break.
His heart (and imagination) run wild at the idea of a spooky-themed party, but can he actually make that happen?
How will Wyatt navigate a sun-soaked summer and still find a way to make his birthday as eek-tacular as ever?
